Last month, Rebecca Lewis, the Fundraising Manager for SMAUK (Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK) approached PA Pool’s founder, Katy Etherington, about a photoshoot they were organising.

The charity specifically wanted some images of someone with SMA living life, living with a PA, and showing different types of equipment in order to update their marketing and social media materials. Look out for their activity in future and you might see Katy!

The photoshoot took place on Friday 17 February 2023, at Katy’s home and around the market town of Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire. The crew visited a number of locations including Dower House Coffee on the High Street.

“We had such a fun day,” said Katy, “I felt like a superstar,” she giggled. “Rebecca asked me if I’d be willing to do the photoshoot and I said yes to represent the ‘older lady’.

“Without Josie and my other PA’s, I literally wouldn’t be able to function. The images demonstrate how I can live a relatively normal and independent life, with this kind of assistance.”

The images capture Katy and Josie, one of her Personal Care Assistants, in a number of everyday activities as they visited the shops; stopped for a coffee and visited the park; got ready for an outing in the car, prepared lunch and undertook some exercise.
