A Positive Survival Guide for People with Life-changing Situations

Posted on April 29, 2024 in News

A new and comprehensive guide explores all aspects of life not often aired, including the physical, emotional and medical, and aims to provide support for people who are ill, have had an accident or who have experienced trauma.

There is also a section on packing for a hospital stay, in the event of an operation, plus thought-provoking things for personal care assistants (PA’s) to implement.

The guide has been written by Carolyn Naish who has an inflammatory disorder that causes muscle pain and stiffness.

“My booklet covers in a sensitive manner the means to empower people and those close to them, to maintain identity, independence, and mobility as much as possible. Learning with compassion to listen to the body, discovering important strategies and management tools to improve quality of life, for a positive way forward, in the aftermath of tragedy.

“It is my burning passion, to raise awareness to both PA Users and PAs on this important subject, where people often flounder and just battle on in silence, when life could be so much better.

“I have gained an insight personally as I have Polymyalgia Rheumatica, Osteoporosis and recently had a hip replacement. With 12 years’ experience working in a Hospice, then running my own counselling and therapy business until I retired, I became so aware that these subjects are not talked about, and misunderstood.

“My booklet is free to everyone. It can be viewed in PDF format or printed out. It is predominantly written from a patient’s point of view, but also from different aspects that a partner/carer/family member may experience and find hard to deal with, or know what to do.

“I would love that this booklet provides a beacon of hope and a realistic feeling of optimism for an improved quality of life.

“I truly would welcome any feedback.”
